MPI to resurface Mahdia’s runway

1st September, 2015

KINGSTON - One of the busiest hinterland aerodromes in Region 8 (Potaro-Siparuni) will have its runway reconstructed shortly.

Alphonso Mangah, the Ministry of Public Infrastructure’s (MPI) Aviation Inspector of Aerodromes, disclosed that the Mahdia sirstrip project is out for public tendering. The closing date is September 8, 2015.

“Mahdia’s airstrip is an important hub in the mining community. Over 60 flights operate from there per week to other outlying areas…shuttling passengers, cargo and fuel,” Mr. Mangah added.

The runway’s length is 3,000 feet long and 50 feet wide.

MPI maintains 46 hinterland airstrips.
