Minister Edghill, during the ceremony held at the Watooka Guest House in Linden, charged the newly appointed Executives to work in the best interest of the Region at large and to put aside Political preferences. He noted that certain areas, such as health, education and assistance to the elderly are non-negotiable and that these should not be politicized.
The new Chairman of Region 10 is Mr. Deron Dams and the new Vice Chair is Mr. Douglas Gittens. Sixteen new Councillors will also serve the Region.
The Minister of Public Works congratulated the new appointees and noted that success is determined by vision and competent leadership. He explained that the Government stands ready and prepared to work with the Region towards its development. Further, Minister Edghill said the Administration stands willing to extend a hand of cooperation.
Minister Edghill used the opportunity to inform the citizens that several initiatives have been put in place to significantly impact life in Region 10.
The Minister made specific reference to policies which will energize and kick start forestry as a means of livelihood for Lindeners. He explained that communities will benefit from concessions and the reversal of Value Added Tax (VAT) on machinery. Additionally, work will be done to open new road from Kwakwani to Orealla, Minister Edghill pointed out.
Lindeners were glad to hear that new housing areas will be developed and made available to young people. To top it off, VAT on housing materials have been revoked to make construction costs less burdensome.
Meanwhile, the new Regional Chairman committed to work tirelessly towards the development of the Region. He applauded the outgoing Chairman for his good work and noted that he looks forward to partnering with the Government.
